25,000 Iraqi Dinar Note — Security Features
The 25,000 IQD note is the most commonly traded denomination. It features multiple layers of security designed by the Central Bank of Iraq to prevent counterfeiting.
Watermark
Hold the note up to light to reveal a faint image of the horse head watermark embedded in the paper. This is visible from both sides.
Security Thread
A metallic security thread is embedded within the paper. When held to light, it appears as a continuous dark line running vertically through the note.
Colour-Shifting Ink
The denomination numeral on the note uses optically variable ink (OVI) that changes colour when viewed at different angles — typically shifting between green and blue.
UV Fluorescent Features
Under ultraviolet (UV) light, specific areas of the banknote fluoresce in distinct colours. This feature is invisible under normal light and is one of the strongest anti-counterfeiting measures.
Microprinting
Tiny text is printed in various areas of the note that is only legible under magnification. This is extremely difficult to replicate with standard printing equipment.
Intaglio Printing
Raised ink printing (intaglio) creates a tactile feel on certain areas of the note. You can feel the texture by running your finger across the denomination number and key design elements.
Denominations Available
All Iraqi Dinar denominations issued by the Central Bank of Iraq since 2003 (the "new" Iraqi Dinar) contain similar security features. Higher denominations generally have more advanced anti-counterfeiting measures.

How to Verify Your Notes
If you have purchased Iraqi Dinar and want to verify their authenticity, here are practical steps you can follow at home:
Visual Checks
- 1.Hold the note to a light source — look for the watermark image and security thread
- 2.Tilt the note at different angles — the colour-shifting ink on the denomination should change colour
- 3.Use a magnifying glass to check for microprinting in the design borders
Physical Checks
- 4.Run your finger over the denomination number — genuine notes have a raised, tactile feel (intaglio printing)
- 5.Check the paper quality — genuine notes are printed on high-quality cotton-based paper, not standard paper
- 6.If you have a UV torch, check under ultraviolet light for fluorescent features

How to Store Iraqi Dinar Safely
Keep Dry
Store in a cool, dry place away from moisture. Consider using airtight bags or containers.
Avoid Sunlight
Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can fade colours and degrade security features over time.
Handle With Care
Minimise handling. Oils from fingers can damage notes over time. Consider using gloves for large quantities.
